Group Walks: Street Art (Murals) Along the Canal

We head along the Grand Union Canal and pass some great street art (murals) along the way. The canal art trail was painted by Graffwerk, a consortium of artists, with the help of local communities. We return to the city centre via city streets, taking in a few more murals as we go. The walk finishes at the Clock Tower in the city centre.

This route visits locations associated with some of Leicester’s notable women of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It includes campaigners, teachers, Suffragettes and women whose work improved the lives of others in the city. The walk content is similar to the Suffragettes themed walk presented earlier this year, but the route has been extended to include some extra locations. At around 2.5 miles, this is one of our longer walks led at a medium pace.

CANCELLED: Group walk – Explore urban Aylestone & St Mary’s Open Space

A walk from Aylestone Leisure Centre passing interesting buildings on Aylestone’s urban streets and pausing for a little light information along the way. Places of interest include a Victorian school and library and the National Gas Museum. We return through St Mary’s Open Space, a relatively new public green space in the city. At just under 1.5 miles this is one of our short walks, led at a steady pace.

Enjoy a friendly group walk through pleasant city streets revealing some interesting facts along the way. This winter walk passes locations associated with some of Leicester’s creative people – including writers, artists, actors and playwrights. It finishes at the museum on New Walk where walkers can check out ‘object of the month’ and visit the Open 33: Peoples Art Exhibition in its final week. This is a great way to get outdoors, explore the city on foot, meet new people and discover something new. This short walk is suitable for most. Walking or wheeling, we hope you’ll join us!
